Green is easy. Half of my children's wardrobe is green, as are the walls of their bedroom. Although we live in Manhattan, we have a spectacular view of two enormous Black Locust trees (with the Hudson River and Palisades as backdrop), and we live blocks from the Heather Garden and the very green park surrounding it. Taking photos this week I tried to avoid the obvious green in my life and find green from other sources. My favorite shot posted was taken last week, a green rosary wrapped around the handlebar of a messenger bike parked in front of the local grocery store (you can see another shot of it here).

Next week's Photo Friday theme: little things.

I really love that last shot too, Amber...and the first one with the dress. And I appreciate how your challenge does inspire one to "think outside the obvious green." I enjoyed participating in this project very much. Thank you!

Molly--thank you too!

Stephanie--all you have to do is post a photo to your blog on the subject of the week (this week "green," next week "little things") and then link it using the Simply Linked form above (I think Molly forgot to do this part).

I'd love to have you participate!

ok, I'm on it. We'll see what I can get today and if I can figure out the Simply Linked...sounds simple enough :)

I like your solutions to the green theme challenge, to get past the obvious. I especially like the rosary / bike composition.

The green theme was hard for me for a couple of reasons. The green of spring is as seductive as it is obvious. But because it is everywhere you have to look hard for elements of composition. It is also hard to attend to because explosions of color in gardens and parks distract. I took dozens of photographs that just didn't work at all.

I look forward to the "little things" week.

I like them all but I especially like the top one: the drape of the dress combined with the edges of the heavy coat and a cozy sweater, the fuzzy brightness of the lighting, the fact that the coat is unbuttoned, which signifies that the day is not too cold, or maybe walking has warmed you up. For whatever reason (or all of these reasons) it evokes for me the feeling of being comfortable in one's own skin. I also really favor the bottom one of the rosary combined with the wet handlebars. I think that would be a really nice one to submit to On Being, by the way.

I like them all, but especially the one with the pan and the green spatula.

I second Manuela's spatula sentiments. You have just vindicated my purchasing of mostly green kitchen tools.

It is always spring when I visit your page, always something fresh, the bright new deep down of things, these photos especially. Love the leaf!
