for you, my dear friend—or, so love comes

let it go—the
smashed word broken
open vow or
the oath cracked length
wise—let it go it
was sworn to
                      go

let them go—the
truthful liars and
the false fair friends
and the boths and
neithers—you must let them go they
were born
                      to go

let all go—the
big small middling
tall bigger really
the biggest and all
things—let all go
dear
        so love comes

So much has been happening. It seems like blogs are a place to write what has been happening, but then you can't. Not always; not exactly. And there is the part about being busy, opening a school, summer vacations a few weeks away. And the part about having two toddlers. This can be said, but, really, it takes a lot of talent to make material of this sort interesting and I'm not Catherine Newman.

But I can say I've learned a whole lot this year. I am seeing things that used to fill me with anger as, well ridiculous, funny even. I am not spending as much time in the what ifs and wouldn't it be nices. I'm finding that I am am in my skin more often, and it's not such a bad place to be. The light just got a whole lot better. And well, I think I can trust myself again. Not only that: but trust myself more thoroughly than before. (I did sort of bite off more than I could chew for awhile there.)

I have cleared out the cabinets, and not just anything is going back in, if you catch my drift. So love comes.

I needed to read exactly this today, Amber- all of it. I have never read this poem by e.e. cummings but now want to paste it somewhere, like on the bathroom mirror or over the kitchen sink. And I find also that the more that is going on, the less I seem able to write about it all, and summer is always a time when that is especially true.

Thank you for this. This really is beautifully expressed. I can relate to a lot you are saying. It's really nice to master the art of letting go a little bit more as we get older.
Someone told me just yesterday:" Do your remember how angry you used to get at this and that? You are different now."
