Two photos of opposite sides of the same large hedge, Wave Hill, New York © 2012 Amber Schley Iragui |
The original idea for this week's theme was a photo I took of Genevieve a few weeks ago.
I usually avoid symmetry—it just begs more symmetry.
It's far more pleasing to work with off-center images—
balancing incongruous objects and sweeping diagonals.
But every once in a while a burst of
symmetry is rather, er,
centering.
And then
Wave Hill Gardens
is full of delightful,
almost-symmetrical scenes.
Next week's theme is one I'm particularly looking forward to:
work—desks and tables.

I like them all, but especially your composition with Genevieve, and the lily pad.
Lovely, lovely, beautiful. I admire your eye for color, but I also always like the tones of your b/w pictures. It feels calming to look at them. I think my favorites are the last two this week.
(I posted pictures this week, but only a couple match the theme.)
By the way, I would love to buy some prints from you.
I will write you on Facebook.
I love the panoramic of the girls on either side of the hedge, looks like the same place as the one (of Genevieve) that inspired this topic of symmetry! ♥ Beautiful.
