The original idea for this week's theme was a photo I took of Genevieve a few weeks ago.
I usually avoid symmetry—it just begs more symmetry.
It's far more pleasing to work with off-center images—
balancing incongruous objects and sweeping diagonals.
But every once in a while a burst of
symmetry is rather, er,
centering.
And then
Wave Hill Gardens
is full of delightful,
almost-symmetrical scenes.

Next week's theme is one I'm particularly looking forward to:
work—desks and tables
.

photo friday: black and white

I forgot how much fun it is to shoot in black and white. My little digital camera has B&W "film grain" setting that I used this week, and I enjoyed watching the world transformed by the absence of color. Shape and light hold all the glory.

Next week's Photo Friday theme: blue: true blue, bright blue, cobalt blue, indigo, navy blue (what I'm avoiding here is sky blue or pale and greeny blues).
